Mahakala Tibetan Wooden Mask
Mahakala literally means ” The Great Black One” regarded as the protector of Buddhist monasteries.
The Mahakala has a crown of five skulls which represent the transformation of five human ills into five virtues: Ignorance is transmuted into the wisdom of Reality; Pride is transformed into the wisdom of Sameness; Attachment becomes the wisdom of Discernment; Jealousy evolves into the wisdom of Achievement; and Anger is turned into the wisdom of Reflection. His displeasure at the state of world is dispalyed by his glaring face. The blazing eyebrows, mustache and beard means, he will consume ill thinking with its powerful energy. Mahakala’s three eyes means he can see past, present and future. And the long sharp teeth shows its power to eat the enemies.
